Last week, Tokyo International Players’ production of SEUSSICAL™ took to the stage at Theater Sun-Mall in Tokyo.
I genuinely enjoy directing family-friendly musicals. There’s something joyful and energising about sharing stories that welcome audiences of all ages. I also feel incredibly lucky to work with the diverse cast that reflects the international community I get to be part of.
.
SEUSSICAL™ is more than just a fun musical. Beneath its bright colours and catchy songs lies a powerful message about imagination, resilience, and the value of every voice.
“A person’s a person, no matter how small.”
At the heart of the story is Horton who is steadfast, loyal, and quietly courageous. He believes in the worth of others, even when they’re invisible to the rest of the world. The show reminds us of the power of language and imagination to build new futures and that when creativity is paired with kindness and courage, change is possible. We’re asked not just to speak up, but to truly listen.
Directing this show has reminded me, once again, why I love theatre. It’s a collective effort, a collaboration of minds and hearts. I’m constantly inspired by the energy and dedication of the people I work with. Together, we brought this vibrant, thoughtful story to life and I’m proud of what we created.
