It's hard to believe that January is over already. My days are filled with theatre. I have been working on TIP Youth's productions of Seussical Jr. and Into The Woods Jr. Both of these shows are challenging in their owns ways. Seussical Jr. has a lot of music to teach and some tricky harmonies and Into the Woods Jr., whilst easier than the original, still contains some difficult timing.
I have been teaching the music of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and I'm really enjoying the choral sound of a large cast. There are 38 cast members and it does sound glorious when they all sing together. I have also started working on a new musical. This is my first time working with a show that has never been performed before. It's going to be an interesting challenge.
One of the difficult things about theatre is constantly having to think about the next project. I have already put in a proposal for a May 2020 show and I'm trying to plan what I'm going to do in the second half of 2019. I have also been out looking at theatres, as most theatres in Tokyo need booked at least a year in advance. There are some beautiful spaces that need booked two years in advance, but I have not been able to plan for that yet.
